In honor of Tax Day: “Bend over and grab your ankles.”

As Tax Day looms, here’s one of my favorite old accounting firm print ads. We didn’t develop this one, but I have used it many times in marketing, branding, and differentiation presentations to law firms and CPA firms as a good example of (a) humor in advertising and marketing, (b) how strong visuals can help firms stand out above the clutter and tell your story, and (c) the stronger the graphic, the fewer words you need.

Ad CPA accountant Bend over grab ankles 2 GREATIt also proves that “A [memorable] picture is worth 1000 words.”  Here, the photo clearly tells the story, so the simple headline “IT’S TAX SEASON AGAIN.” is enough.

Further, it’s not about The Firm, it’s about the clients’ experience.  We’re standing in his shoes.

On the other side, although I think it’s hilarious and extremely memorable, (a) it is mildly offensive, and (b) I wouldn’t suggest that accounting firms should insult the IRS quite this directly.

I’m not sure this ad actually ran as the accounting firm’s marketing campaign; I suspect it was simply a clever idea the ad agency developed to enter into advertising competitions.

But you have to admit — it IS kind of on point….
